Château de Valmer
A working Vouvray estate at Chançay, where vineyards and Renaissance terraces occupy the same hillside landscape.

Bronfeiten
Château de Valmer lies at Chançay in Indre-et-Loire, within the Vouvray area east of Tours. Its gardens follow two principal axes across a spur between valleys. Terraces, architecture and clipped planting reflect the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century composition of the site. Wine production is a continuing activity: the estate describes a vineyard of thirty-five hectares and offers still and sparkling wines, including dry, semi-dry and sweet Vouvray. The gardens and wine estate are related parts of the property, but visiting and tasting arrangements depend on the current programme. Valmer’s value within the wine world lies in the direct relationship between a cultivated vineyard landscape and a deliberately composed garden setting.
Redactionele duiding
Valmer makes two kinds of cultivation visible together. The garden organises slope, movement and views; the vineyard organises ground for production. Neither needs to be treated as decoration for the other. Moving between them offers a productive way to consider the Loire estate as both a designed landscape and a working place.
Aanbeveling
Plan a garden visit and a tasting together if both are available on your date. Confirm appointment requirements directly, particularly outside the main garden season. Ask which wines express the estate’s different styles of Vouvray, and check whether a cellar or vineyard visit is included rather than assuming it is.
